Mantena has a broad and diverse range of employees, but the number of female employees remains too low, as it is in the railway sector in general. Of our nearly one thousand employees, the proportion of women is only just over eight percent. Most women in the company hold management and administrative positions, with the distribution being most uneven among skilled workers.
Low turnover and a male-dominated industry make it challenging to increase the proportion of women in the railway sector. However, given the rapid development within public transport and mobility, there is no reason to believe that the proportion of women in the railway industry cannot be increased in the years to come.
Many opportunities
There are numerous career opportunities in the railway sector, far more than just train drivers and conductors. Opportunities are not only found within mechanical trades; there are also several railway-related subjects at bachelor's and master's levels. Changes in the industry are occurring at a tremendous pace, with great access to new technology and modern tools. In other words, the railway is a forward-looking workplace with great possibilities.
Silje Nilsen, Marketing Director at Mantena, welcomes all girls who wish to pursue a career in the railway sector.
– In the same way that our focus on apprenticeships is an important part of our social responsibility, efforts to increase the proportion of women is also part of this responsibility. Everyone who joins Mantena should encounter a safe and developmental workplace with exciting tasks and good opportunities for development, regardless of gender and background.
