Satisfied apprentices ensure recruitment at Mantena.
With around one thousand employees, Mantena is one of the country’s major industrial players. The company has been a leader in the maintenance of rail vehicles for years and possesses vast amounts of heavy, specialized industrial expertise throughout its organization. Our country will need more skilled workers in the future, but to secure recruitment and avoid a shortage of apprenticeship positions, we are entirely dependent on companies that dare to invest in new and fresh talent.
The intake of apprentices has long been an important part of how Mantena recruits new employees. This autumn, there are a total of 21 apprentices in the company, among them first-year apprentice Helene Skaalerud and second-year apprentice Julia Wagner. Both apprentices are very satisfied with their apprenticeship period so far and praise both the working environment and the tasks they have had the opportunity to work on.
Varied work tasks
– What I like best about my workplace is probably the great environment. I also appreciate that as apprentices, we rotate between departments so we constantly get varied tasks and have the chance to experience almost everything the company does. Since I started, I have, among other things, participated in a lot of inspection and testing of various train components, including batteries, brake equipment, motors, and compressors, says Helene.
Julia also highlights the great variety in work tasks when asked what she likes best about being an apprentice at Mantena. – The fact that the tasks are so varied means we get new challenges all the time and things never get boring. Examples of tasks I have been able to try include assembling a bogie, maintaining a locomotive, and working on engines. I must also say that my colleagues are a big positive about being here, Julia smiles.
An important part of social responsibility
HR Director Tone Sande explains that the focus on apprentices is a central part of how the company thinks about recruitment.
– For us, investing in apprentices is a natural part of our social responsibility and recruitment policy. Our conscious focus on this helps us acquire more competent employees in addition to ensuring that professional expertise develops in line with the needs of the industry. With us, apprentices should encounter a safe and developmental workplace with many exciting tasks and good opportunities for personal development. We will continue to welcome new apprentices and give them the chance.
