Utgångna delar till äldre tåg kan vara svåra att få tag på. Vissa delar kan också vara mycket dyra att köpa in och ibland behövs ad hoc-lösningar och specialverktyg. Då kan det löna sig att tillverka reservdelar eller verktyg själv. Mantena vill utvecklas inom detta område och har nu startat ett forskningsprojekt för rekonstruktion ("reverse engineering") av komponenter.
Nyligen hade Mantena ett uppstartsmöte med samarbetspartnerna i projektet: Sintef, APIteq AS, Fieldmade AS och Jernbanedirektoratet. Projektet heter "RevEngRail", vilket är en förkortning för "3D Scanning and Reverse Engineering algorithms in the Railway Sector" och stöds av Forskningsrådet. Mantena är projektägare.
– Mantena ska förbättra processerna inom detta område. Det är vår avsikt med projektet. Vi ska ta fram en färdplan ("Roadmap") som visar vägen från ett behov av reservdelar till en färdigproducerad och certifierad del, säger tillförordnad projektledare Petter Lefoka.
Projektet ska också genomföra och publicera en pilotstudie i en erkänd tidskrift, för att testa den nya processen bland experter inom akademin.
Sintef ska ta fram algoritmer som automatiserar steg i databehandlingsprocessen från en 3D-skanning till en CAD-ritning och produktionsunderlag. APIteq och Fieldmade ska ta fram en automatiserad lösning för 3D-skanning som ska testas på Ventilloftet på Grorud. APIteq är experter på 3D-skanning. Fieldmade är specialister på "Additive manufacturing" och alternativ logistikledning. De ska hjälpa Mantena att utveckla processen. Jernbanedirektoratet ska också bistå i projektet.
Petter Lefoka har varit projektledare för förstudien och fungerar som projektledare fram till Henrik Mathiesen kommer tillbaka från pappaledighet. Andra som är centrala i projektet hos Mantena är Daniel Stigen (Mantena Engineering), Anders Rene Gundersen (Teamledare på Ventilloftet), John-Egil Kjelsrud (Avdelningschef på Ventilloftet) och Terje Hullstein (Teknisk chef). Tron Ranvik har också varit central i starten.
