Mantena delivers engine construction services for AB Transitio

31. March 2020

The workshop at Marienborg is solving new challenges.

Last autumn, Mantena received an exciting inquiry to build and deliver two engines from the ground up. The request came from Swedish AB Transitio after we entered into an agreement with the company two years ago for the overhaul of engines.

It is the workshop at Marienborg in Trondheim that is building and assembling the engines. Both mechanics and staff in other roles at Mantena have already been involved in the project for quite some time.

Satisfied Project Manager

Contract manager Geir Helge Austberg has been Mantena's project manager for the delivery to AB Transitio. Although the project has presented new challenges, he can share positive experiences and a well-executed project thus far.

"We have previously overhauled and serviced various engines; we have extensive experience in this area. However, the complete assembly of this type of engine is new to us. In this specific assignment, we are talking about two MAN diesel engines for Itino trains. Since it is not possible to purchase complete engines, we had to build the engines from scratch."

Praises the Effort

Austberg says that the project has involved not only those who have worked directly on the engines but also people working in other parts of the value chain, such as procurement, logistics, and testing. In this respect, the two engine jobs have been a comprehensive assignment for Mantena.

"Many of our staff have contributed to this delivery, particularly those involved in testing and trial operations. Among other things, we run the engines through a diagnostic station, conduct load tests, analyze measurement values, and adjust the engines before delivery. The team has really put in a great effort."

These days, Austberg and colleagues at Marienborg are working to finalize the delivery of the first engine, which is planned to take place during March. The second engine is scheduled for delivery in the course of April or May.
