It is with pride and humility that Mantena has signed a contract with Alstom for the installation of ERTMS onboard equipment on the Norwegian train fleet. ERTMS is a computerized signaling system common to all European countries and, according to BaneNOR, one of Norway's largest digitalization projects.
ERTMS is intended to provide a more stable railway with higher punctuality, increased safety, and, in the long term, greater capacity by allowing more trains to operate on the tracks simultaneously. The installation scope covers 382 trains, with an option for an additional 26, and will span four years.
Winning such a large and significant project for the future of Norway's railway is a major vote of confidence for Mantena and once again demonstrates Mantena’s ability to secure major contracts.
This contract is highly significant for the development of the Mantena Group’s project execution capacity both in Norway and the Nordic region, as well as its position as the largest independent provider of projects and maintenance services to the railway sector in the Nordics. The contract also adds volume and greater capacity for Mantena to handle continuously new and increasingly complex projects.
Mantena’s tender team has been working since 2017 with broad participation from across Mantena. The team that secured the contract was led by Fredrik Hultgreen. Bjørn Hattrem now takes over as head of Mantena’s project execution. From the outset, Mantena has worked systematically and over the long term to reach the signing. The first recognition came with the assignment for the installation in the GA phase (the demo trains), and through a successful execution of this project in close cooperation with Alstom, the focus turned to reaching an agreement that would satisfy both Alstom and Mantena. The first train with ERTMS installation will be delivered as early as the second half of 2021.
