Mantena coordinates and plans the traffic in Bane Nor's workshop area in Drammen. They have now been given renewed trust.
– Mantena provides us with what we need to maintain an overview and carries out the task in a very satisfactory manner. It is important that someone has daily control and oversight of the facility, states Hans Inge Fuglseth, regional manager at Bane Nor.
Bane Nor's workshop area at Sundland in Drammen is used by various railway operators, and Mantena also has a workshop there. In addition, Mantena serves as track planner and shunting coordinator – an agreement which has now been extended with Bane Nor.
Optimal flow
The track planning function means that Mantena schedules and arranges the use of the various tracks in the area.
– This involves regular weekly meetings with users of the facility. Now that there is a lot of construction activity in the area, this is also brought into the meetings – so that we can take necessary measures to ensure that everything operates as smoothly as possible in the workshop, explains Fuglseth.
The shunting coordinator manages and coordinates all the traffic in the area and ensures optimal flow. This function also maintains an important overview of operations.
– This allows us at all times to have an overview of which train is where, and to inform our customers – whether they need to use facilities in the workshop, such as cleaning, or locomotive drivers need to collect trains. This overview is extremely important for us, states the regional manager.
The local knowledge required
While the track planner works during the day, the shunting coordinator role is staffed around the clock.
– We greatly benefit from having someone always present, and Mantena performs the job effectively. It was important for us that someone already familiar with the area received this task. Mantena knows the tracks well and possesses the local knowledge required, says Fuglseth.
From the New Year, the agreement will be expanded to also include a gatekeeper function that registers the use of services in the workshop.
Delivery manager at Mantena, Rolf Ole Bekkevold, is pleased that Bane Nor has renewed and expanded the contract.
